What is an ICC Profile?
One of the biggest issues photographers face is getting the correct colour from a print. You have done your editing, looks great on the screen but when printed it doesn’t look right. Well, there are some key points to consider before using an ICC profile.
To ensure that your printed image will match what you see, downloading our finely tuned ICC profiles and using these in your workflow to softproof your image will ensure that you can expect what you see. Each ICC profile is calibrated to a specific printer and paper combination. This means if you have the same printer at home, you can’t use our ICC profiles to print as each printer has a “different personality”. Hence the requirement to create individual and specific profiles.
An ICC profile is created by scanning a print with up to a few thousand colour patches. A spectrocolorimeter is used to measure the colours printed against what their true value should be.
The difference is computed, and a specific profile is born for that paper used with the specific printer that created the test chart.
ICC profile is merely reflecting the colorimetric capability of the printer and print media combination you wish to use for your image.
Softproofing in Lightroom or Photoshop with these profiles will give you a true indication if your image will look the same as the screen and weather you have any out of gamut areas.
You can then proceed to fix or match areas of the image as close as possible before sending the file to print.
If you’re not sure about this and prefer us to help you check your image before printing, we do offer this as a service. Just select check our image on the checkout when you place your order.
